TDK BEAM 1 (1998 JP) Cassette Tape

TDK BEAM 1 Cassette Description

The TDK BEAM 1 (1998 Japanese-market edition) is a normal-bias Type I blank audio cassette with a light-charged, glow-in-the-dark design. Its illustrated packaging and luminous cassette components make it a distinctive choice for TDK collectors, while its Type I format suits recording on compatible cassette decks.

A cassette designed to glow

The Light Charge System uses phosphorescent components that absorb energy from light and gradually release it as a visible glow in darkness. This creates an afterglow that continues after the light source is removed.

The original packaging identifies luminous parts in the cassette mechanism, together with label and index areas designed to help you read recorded titles in low light. The effect comes from stored light energy, so it needs prior exposure to light.

Futuristic helmet artwork gives the packaging its distinctive look. Combined with the luminous design, it captures the playful visual style of Japanese cassette releases from the late 1990s.

TDK BEAM 1 Technical Specifications

  • Playback equalization: 120 µs
  • Condition: Factory-sealed new old stock
  • Distinctive feature: Light-charged, glow-in-the-dark cassette components

Which cassette setting should I use?

Select Normal or Type I when recording on a deck with manual tape selection. Follow your recorder’s instructions for recording level and calibration.

What makes the cassette glow, and how is the luminous material contained?

The glow comes from phosphorescent pigment: solid particles that absorb light energy and gradually release it as a visible afterglow. These pigments are typically held within plastic or bound into a dried ink or coating.

Is this newly manufactured tape?

This is factory-sealed vintage stock from the 1998 Japanese-market edition. Sealed tapes have not been opened or play-tested.
