The Sony WM-D6C Professional Walkman is widely regarded as one of the finest portable cassette recorders ever made. Known for its exceptional sound quality, precision engineering, and remarkable recording capabilities, the WM-D6C has earned a special place among audiophiles, recording enthusiasts, and collectors.

This particular example is truly exceptional.

Manufactured around 1989, this is an early-production unit (S/N 138537), with the highly desirable amorphous head.

Unit is in near-mint condition, with extremely low hours, no visible head wear, and barely any cosmetic imperfections, this is as close to a new WM-D6C as we've ever seen.
Finding an early amorphous-head example in this condition, especially with its original packaging and accessories, is not something you see every day.

The unit has been professionally serviced by a Walkman specialist and is in excellent operating condition. Its playback and recording performance are superb, delivering the exquisite sound that made the WM-D6C legendary.

Included Accessories

  • Original, serial-number-matched Sony box in very good condition.

  • Original Sony leather carrying case in near-mint condition.

  • Original shoulder strap, which appears to have never been used.

  • Era-correct Sanyo AC power adapter (compatible replacement, not the original Sony adapter).

  • Bonus Sony ECM-T110 tie-pin electret condenser microphone, era-correct, seens unused, in its original open box.

A Few Notes on Condition

We believe in complete transparency, especially when offering a collectible piece of vintage equipment at this level.

The battery compartment showed evidence of a minor battery leak at some point in its history.
It has been thoroughly cleaned and restored to full functionality, and is now 100% operational.
* Apologies for the faint vinegar smell, it was used to neutralize the acid remainders...

There is also an extremely faint mechanical noise originating from the tape counter mechanism, as identified by our technician as a well-known issue with these models.
Addressing it would have required completely stripping down the unit, and given that it has no effect on operation or sound quality, our technician recommended leaving it undisturbed rather than introducing unnecessary risk to an otherwise exceptional machine.
To put this into perspective, the noise is so faint that our camera couldn't capture it during our video demonstration.

Neither of these minor observations detracts from the outstanding condition, functionality, or listening experience of this remarkable Walkman.

A Rare Opportunity

For the serious Sony collector or vintage audio enthusiast, this is an opportunity to own an extraordinarily well-preserved, professionally serviced early-production WM-D6C with the coveted amorphous head.

The combination of its remarkable condition, minimal apparent use, original serial-matched packaging, and exceptionally well-preserved accessories makes this a particularly special example of one of the most celebrated portable cassette machines ever produced.

Please take the time to watch our video demonstration and examine the detailed close-up photographs. We want you to know exactly what you're getting, and we believe this beautiful WM-D6C speaks for itself.
