The Nakamichi MR-2 is a professional, rack mountable cassette deck, often used in recording studios, PA, and broadcast.
This deck was meticulously rebuilt and finely tuned in December 2021 by one of the world’s foremost Nakamichi technicians, Willy Hermann.
It has been restored to original factory specifications, and was carefully used and meticulously maintained for less than 100 hours since.
Cosmetically, the deck is in excellent condition (9.5/10), with only minor age-appropriate imperfections visible in the attached photos. The most obvious are few surface scratches on the top cover, and some discoloration on the left side rack mount ear. It looks almost as new!
Functionally, it is as close to new as we've ever seen. The heads have practically no wear, and it sounds amazing. All the buttons operate smoothly and reliably. It records and plays back so good, that you'll be hard pressed to tell it apart from 3 head decks costing 5X or more.
In fact, in 2024, we organized a deck shootout on the tapeheads forums.
